The College of Veterinary Medicine organizes a scientific symposium entitled (the causes that lead to fish death).

The College of Veterinary Medicine organized a scientific symposium entitled (the causes that lead to fish death), which was held by teacher Iqbal Salman Najm in the teaching of diseases and poultry diseases.

The symposium aims to examine the causes of fish mortality phenomenon, especially that occurred recently in some governorates of Iraq in order to develop solutions and treatments for it as well as to define the economic importance of fish and the capital it provides to the country in addition to the job opportunities it creates for the labor force.

She showed that one of the most important causes that lead to this phenomenon is the scarcity of water and the low levels of it as well as its pollution as a result of health or industrial waste in addition to the toxic dissolved materials found in the wastes of many chemical compounds or oil and hydrocarbon wastes and other reasons.

The symposium included three axes dealing with the first axis the economic importance of fish, the second discussed fish consumption at the global, Arab and local levels, and the third discussed the causes of fish death phenomenon through the definition of the disease and its symptoms and the most important treatments.

The lecturer explained that the death of fish due to the release of some types of these algae to bacterial toxins that lead to the killing of fish and killing them at once, especially since there are many fish feeding on these algae. The problem is that the effect of these toxins can extend to human health, as eating dead or injured fish can lead to severe diarrhea, skin itching, and even complete paralysis and sometimes death.
