About the College
The College of Veterinary Medicine / University of Diyala was founded on 2002 with two complementary goals: (i) preparing new generations of educated leaders of veterinarians; and (ii) participation in shaping new veterinary doctors who are able to translate the knowledge into scientific and community benefits. The Veterinary college includes eight multidisciplinary scientific departments (Public Health; Physiology, Pharmacology and Biochemistry; Internal Medicine; Surgery and Obstetrics; Parasitology; Pathology; Anatomy and Histology; and Microbiology). The first batch of students were enrolled in our college during 2003 to achieve the Bachelor’s degree of veterinary medicine and surgery. Since then (2003) till the current time the college continued to enroll new batch of students every year. The students are enrolled to study various courses
of animal sciences for five years (full time) to fulfill the requirements of the Bachelor’s degree. These courses include biology, animal anatomy, chemistry, biochemistry, large animal management, poultry management, physiology, pathology, animal nutrition, statistics, computer science, embryology, histology, bacteriology, immunity, virology, obstetrics, surgery, infectious diseases, poultry diseases, ichthyology, post-mortem, forensic medicine, clinical pathology, clinics, and internal medicine. Moreover, the college offers postgraduate studies (Master of Science degree) in multiple animal sciences such as zoonotic diseases, histology and anatomy, microbiology, and veterinary internal medicine.
Our specialized laboratories, veterinary clinic and associated facilities provide our students with vital experience and skills which prepare them for a rewarding career in animal-related industrial fields. In summary, the College of Veterinary Medicine provides world-class, hands-on education and training. At Diyala province, We are the only veterinary college and the first in offering free services including surgery and treatment to various animal species that belong to the local community in Ba’aquba city (the capital city of Diyala province).

At the College of Veterinary Medicine, we embrace our role and purpose as a future- makers for our province, our country, and the world. At our college, we have made a habit of breaking new ground. We are the province’s first College of Veterinary Medicine that offer bachelor degrees in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery.

Our dedicated team of academic, research and professional staff are committed to enhancing student learning experiences and collaborating with our external partners (Diyala Veterinary Hospital). We improve the health, welfare and productivity of animals by our research that are concerning to address the local issues facing the animals and veterinary industries. Our research is catalyzed by good-quality infrastructure, and we endeavor to access the cutting-edge research facilities.
Objectives of the College
To cope with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research standers, our college strives to achieve the following principal objectives:
1-Providing a high-quality education and preparing the graduates; scientifically, professionally, culturally, and mentally to meet the requirements of the public and private sectors.
2-Adopting a comprehensive basis for quality assurance that includes internal and external evaluation for the educational process in the college.
3-Enhance the links between research conducting and education to help in shaping new generations of knowledgeable veterinarians and entrepreneurs able to translate the veterinary sciences into societal benefit.
4-Sharing the knowledge and research with the corresponding local and international institutions by organizing scientific meetings such as lectures, courses and seminars, and hosting or attending international conferences.
5-Continuous development of the academic, administrative staff of the college which leads to the improvement of the entire educational process.
6-Building an ever-stronger nexus between our research and local economic demands, specifically, the research that are contributable in solving the animal industry and health issues.
